PERFORMANCE NOTES:

1.  The intro riff (A) is played at the 9th fret position using an alternating
    picking pattern.  Use the palm of your hand to mute the strings while
    you pick.  The key element to this guitar sound is a rythymic echo,
    similar to the signature guitar sound of The Edge from U2.  Set the
    delay so that it repeats in time with the eighth-note picking pattern.

2.  In the verse section (B) the guitar plays power chords (root & fifth, no
    3rd) that follow the bass line.  The chord progression as outlined by the
    combination of guitar, bass and keyboards (sampled horns) is as follows:

    G (no 3rd) - D/F#  - E (no 3rd)
    G (no 3rd) - D/F#  - E (no 3rd)
    G (no 3rd) - D/F#  - D
    D/F# - A (no 3rd)/E - B (no 3rd)
    C (no 3rd) - D (no 3rd) - E (no 3rd)

3.  Chorus 1 (D) is played with a downward picking pattern, while partially
    muting the strings with the palm of your hand.  This technique is pretty
    constant throughout the first chorus except during the last bar, where
    there is a crescendo.

4.  The solo section (E) is played with a long delay/echo effect and liberal
    doses of tremolo bar thrown in; listen to the studio recording for all
    the nuances.  The two sustained notes played over the first four bars of
    the chorus sound as if they were overdubbed separately from the solo;
    the second note could possibly be a feedback volume swell, but can be
    approximated by a 7th fret harmonic on the D string.

5.  Chorus 2 (F) is played similar to chorus 1, but with the guitar
    gradually building to full intensity; refer to the studio recording for
    the proper feel.  Both the guitar and bass play an accented pattern within
    the steady eighth-note rythym (accents are notated by >).  All strummed
    chords in this section are overdubbed by a second guitar in the studio
    recording; you can approximate the two guitar parts by letting the chords
    ring while you return to the downward picking pattern.  A solo guitar
    fill is overdubbed during the last part of the chorus; this section is
    noted in the transcription and has been tabbed separately at the end.
