Falling Behind

Joseph Pinheiro

I used to think I knew it all
Never thought that I could fall
I held my head a little too high
And ignored the warning signs

I trusted people I called friends
Until their words became pretend
Now I'm sitting here alone
Wondering where I went wrong

I thought I'd never lose my way
I thought I'd always have my place
But now I'm looking at myself
And I don't recognize the face

I'm falling behind, I'm losing my ground
The person I was can't be found
I used to be the best at what I do
Now I'm watching someone else break through

I gave my trust, they let me down
Now there's no one else around
Maybe my pride was the reason why
I ended up alone tonight

I know I made my own mistakes
I know some hearts I couldn't save
I thought that being strong meant never bending
Now I know I was just pretending

And every time I see their faces
I remember all the changes
Some betrayed me, some moved on
And somehow I'm still holding on

Maybe I don't have to be the best
Maybe I just need to do my best
I can't go back and change the past
But I can learn from what didn't last

I'm falling behind, I'm losing my ground
The person I was can't be found
I used to be the best at what I do
Now I'm watching someone else break through

I gave my trust, they let me down
But maybe I don't need them now
I'm not the person I used to be
But maybe that's who I'm meant to be
