The G string is pretty important when using these chord options. Note there is also the option to play Em7 instead of the Cmaj7. And to use the TABd chord options instead of the Bm and Cmaj7. (Ive tried both and it just depends on preference!) Play around with it and have fun! [Verse 1]
Em9 Momma cuts like a man-of-war
Gmaj7 Through the fog of an early morning
Em7 Bm Cmaj7 With nothing more than a coffee filling up her sails
Em9 A couple sips and she says, I know
Gmaj7 I can keep what I started going
Em7 Bm She hears the clock tick, the wolf who loiters at the door
Cmaj7 Gmaj7 Daddy asleep in the bed he made the night before
Em7 Bm Cmaj7 And so she cuts through the morning like a man-of-war [Verse 2]
Em9 Daddy burns like a meteor
Gmaj7 Through a night of his own diversions
Em7 Bm Cmaj7 Hoping to blaze half a second of a glowing trail
Em9 Pours rum on his weary heart
Gmaj7 Says, hey, I'm closer than when I started
Em7 Bm He hears the clock tick, the wolf who loiters at the door
Cmaj7 Gmaj7 Momma tossing and turning through the coming storm
Em7 Bm Cmaj7 And so he burns through diversions like a meteor Oh, there's a lot to learn [Chorus]
Em One puts into port
D Lowers a rowboat and grabs an oar
G Am Singing, all ashore that's going ashore
Gm One falls back to earth
C7 Leaves a crater on the bedroom floor
G D Bb Singing, love, I know I promised more than this [Pre-Verse]
G A Momma cuts through the morning like a man-of-war
Bm D Daddy burns through diversions like a meteor
G A Bm And so they use one another like a guiding star
D Em9 And how I watch as they wonder where and what they are [Verse 3]
Em9 I reflect like a troubadour
Gmaj7 The ebb and flow of their hope and worry
Em7 Bm Cmaj7 In every verse of a living, breathing fairy tale
Em9 As Momma rises and Daddy sets
Gmaj7 Just like they have since the night I met them
Em7 Bm I hear the clock tick, the wolf who loiters at the door
Cmaj7 Gmaj7 Whatever else they decide to fight about and for
Em7 Bm Cmaj7 As I reflect, hope, and worry like a troubadour Oh, there's a lot to learn, oh [Chorus]
Em One puts into port
D Lowers a rowboat and grabs an oar
G Am Singing, all ashore that's going ashore
Am7 One falls back to earth
B7 Leaves a crater on the bedroom floor
G D C Singing, love, I don't need any more than this
