of all the things i've learned from hanging around this place
one thing's for sure, nothing stays the same
like pictures in the clouds, like the way it is right now
with no one else to blame, this is an awkward age

i grew up right here, with the sun in my backyard
on the left coast with the right amount of everything good
now the walls replace the trees
like the wants replace the needs
and now i can't behave in this awkward age

it's a brand new book, it's a clean white page
and yesterday is long gone
i made a short list of things that i need to feel complete
but now i've lost my place
this is an awkward age

i finally sucked the clouds out of my head
and i'm finally catching up to my age
but it's only a number, a tiny piece of forever to hold on to
